Patriotic flotilla, lakeside festivities, and community celebrations honor America’s semi quincentennial on New Jersey’s largest lake
MORRIS COUNTY, NJ – The Morris County 250th Anniversary Steering Committee, in partnership with the Lake Hopatcong Historical Society, is proud to present Celebrate America’s 250th Birthday on Lake Hopatcong on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
This unique, lake-wide celebration will bring together residents, visitors, boaters, community organizations, and local businesses to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the United States on New Jersey’s largest freshwater lake.
The event will feature a patriotic flotilla, community gatherings, family-friendly activities, and festive displays throughout the Lake Hopatcong region. Participants are encouraged to decorate their boats, docks, homes, and businesses in red, white, and blue as part of a vibrant community tribute to America’s semiquincentennial.
“Lake Hopatcong has long been a place where families, friends, and communities come together,” said Sarah Neibart, Chair of the Morris County 250th Anniversary Steering Committee. “As our nation celebrates 250 years of independence, this event provides a unique way to honor our shared history while enjoying one of New Jersey’s most treasured destinations. We hope residents and visitors alike will join us in creating a memorable and patriotic celebration on the lake.”
“Lake Hopatcong has always been more than a lake—it has been a gathering place where history, community, and tradition come together,” said Marty Kane, Chair of the Lake Hopatcong Foundation and President of the Lake Hopatcong Historical Museum. “For generations, people have come here to celebrate holidays, spend time with family, and create lasting memories. As America marks its 250th Anniversary, we have a unique opportunity to reflect on our shared history while bringing people together in one of New Jersey’s most iconic places. I can think of no better setting to celebrate!”

For generations, Lake Hopatcong has served as a centerpiece of recreation, tourism, and community life in northern New Jersey. This celebration will showcase the lake’s enduring role in the region while connecting the spirit of America’s founding to one of Morris County’s most iconic destinations.
The event is part of Morris County’s countywide America 250 initiative, which highlights the county’s significant contributions to the American Revolution and encourages residents and visitors to reflect on the nation’s past, celebrate its present, and help inspire its future.
Celebrate America’s 250th Birthday on Lake Hopatcong will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at locations around Lake Hopatcong.
Attendees are encouraged to decorate their boats, docks, homes, and businesses in patriotic colors and participate in a variety of family-friendly activities taking place throughout the day.
